Security Engineer at Klaviyo

Over the summer I was at Benchling, and for the fall I joined Klaviyo as a Security Engineer! I’m so grateful they could accommodate my later start date, because the team seemed great and I was so happy to gain further exposure to how security engineering is implemented at another company. Especially one that was a fellow startup that recently had an IPO.

Unfortunately, I’m writing this recap almost a year later and my memory of my project details is fading. I mainly worked on implementing device fingerprinting and linking this value to session IDs to help prevent session hijacking. It also served as another useful data point for investigations. However, the technical implementation was very front-end heavy and required almost exclusively coding in TypeScript, which I had no experience in. It was definitely a steep learning curve, and it was difficult to show up to work everyday and struggle. I learned a lot about how to navigate challenging projects at work, and how to persist while going long stretches without a ‘win’.

Despite this, I did have a very educational time at Klaviyo and I do genuinely miss my team. I’m so appreciative of everyone I met for investing their time and effort into my learning and growth, and I wish them all the best.
