CTF Club: Versus CTF and CTF Thyme
Our two big CTF competitions this semester: Versus CTF and CTF Thyme!
Versus CTF was a collaboration with RPI’s security club, which was a super fun addition! We started meeting over the summer to coordinate event planning and challenge creation. The theme was our two mascots- a husky and a puck (lol)- battling it out, streetfighter style! With both our e-boards contributing, we had over 40 original challenges. We were on a continuous zoom call during the competition, and our regular crises were live gaming challenges with one person from each school versus the other! With over 100 attendees across both colleges, the energy in the room was electric.
Our second competition of the semester was appropriately thankskgiving themed, with easier challenges for a light appetizer, meatier challenges for entrees, and some sweet bonus hard challenges for dessert! Again, we had close to 70 participants! By now, our e-board and our events are a smooth, predictable process. We can plan, create, and deploy the challenges for a competition within a week and have fabulous attendance every time. As much as I love seeing fresh faces so new people learn about CTFs, it really warms my heart to see the same people show up at every event, especially our competitions. It’s how I know we’re on the right track, and doing work that matters. We’re a consistent part of some people’s college lives- and more importantly, their free time- and I feel so honored that they choose to be with us. To solve our challenges.
I love our little community. I’m really going to miss it next year.
