DEFCON

DEFCON !!!! AH !!!!!!

I’ve been wanting to go for years, and this year my linux malware professor chose a handful of his students to take this year! It was such an amazing experience, but definitely largely thanks to my professor who showed us the ropes and introduced us to a lot of cool people. I spent most of the time wandering the different villages, but did go to a couple talks about reverse engineering, car hacking, and IoT hacking. I was super fascinated by the car hacking village, and the Ford F-150 in a box!

My experience was definitely so fun because several people I knew were also in attendance. The benefit of having cyber friends is having a friendship reunion at conferences! Ultimately, my greatest takeaway from the conference is that there’s a lot of cool work in this field, a lot I don’t know, and that I just need to start. I’ve always been so paralyzed by all the possibilities this field has to offer, but I just need to choose something that catches my attention and start, instead of overthinking it.

This truly felt like a proper inauguration into being a real cybersecurity professional.
